Welcome to River City Vineyard!

River City Vineyard is a church and community center in downtown Sarnia, Ontario, serving the city with a facility for worship, healing, and hope.

It is our goal to equip our community with educational resources, ministry, and recreational facilities.

We have many outreach services such as a mens sanctuary, community garden, food bank, free clothing store, and a shower ministry. We are currently working on a 40 bed expansion to our existing sanctuary which will include 15 beds specifically for women.

We also offer community meals throughout the month. Meal dates are located on our weekly bulletin, our events page, or please call the front desk for more information. **Community meals are on hold until further notice due to COVID-19.**

COVID-19 GUIDELINES FOR SUNDAY SERVICES:

As of July 16, 2021, the province of Ontario moved into Step 3 of the reopening plan.

All COVID-19 safety protocols will continue to be implemented, including masks (unless you are exempt), screening, social distancing, contact tracing, and sanitizing. As always, we ask that if you have any symptoms of COVID-19 or feel unwell at all, please stay home until you are feeling better!

We will continue to provide the option to also join our services virtually via Zoom. Vision

Our Vision

1. "We come together to celebrate God's goodness and faithfulness."
We need a sense of God’s dynamic presence as we worship and come before Him. We also need encouragement, teaching, and an opportunity to give of our resources.

2. "This is a safe place to be."
Redemptive relationships allow us to know one another deeply and to be known by others. The Christian life is lived out with people. What we receive from the Lord is always matured, tested and developed in the context of people, like you, in the Body of Christ.

3. "We don't have a membership - we have a ministry team."
We must function in a ministry of some sort. We all need an opportunity to give away and to lay our lives down for others. To simply receive and not give will result in a theoretical walk and a people full of information but lacking in practical reality. We must, therefore, lay down our lives as Jesus did, in serving others in an on-going ministry of some sort. We encourage people to become involved in a ministry that is existing, or to find a need and begin to minister in that place.

Our Priorities

A. WORSHIP
1. We desire to worship God with all our hearts. We want Jesus to be central as the Lord of our lives. We hunger for the fullness of the Spirit...His glory resting upon us.
2. We desire Spirit-enabled worship in a style that is intimate, dynamic, cultural, and life changing.

B. THE WORD
1.We want to hear the Word of God taught in a practical, inspiring way. We wish to hear God's current prophetic Word in conjunction with it.
2. We aim to hear and obey God's Word to us...to be "doers of the Word" who are transformed and becoming more like Jesus.

C. FELLOWSHIP
1. We are the family of God, one Body in Jesus Christ, joined together as brothers and sisters forever.
2. We seek to develop real, intimate, enabling friendships together, built on covenant love and faithfulness.

D. MINISTRY
1. We believe that all Christians are called to serve Christ in the power of His Spirit, in ways that build up the local church.
2. We are called to:
-preach the gospel of the Kingdom
-persuade men to repent and believe in Jesus
-heal the sick
-care for the poor and those in need
-counsel those in need of God's wisdom
-teach believers to follow Christ
-give to the work of Christ
-train Christians to serve the Lord

E. TRAINING
1. We believe that all Christians should be trained to "do" the works of Christ.
2. We are committed to the "show and tell" model of training, in, which trainees are introduced to ministry and then nurtured during and after the training experience. We aim to provide training for all aspects of responsible Christian life and ministry.

F. SENDING
1 .We aim to send trained personnel out on short-term "catalytic team" ministry assignments both to renew the church and enable church planting.
2. We aim to help plant 100 Vineyards in our regions and 10,000 Vineyards around the world in our generation.

Who will pay for homeless shelter?

The strong moral support expressed by government officials for a permanent homeless shelter in Sarnia was encouraging, but the question of who will pay for it remains sketchy.
City, county provincial and federal representatives were on hand Thursday when the wraps came off plans for a 40-bed complex to provide both emergency homeless services and longer-term transitional housing.
The need for such a facility is self-evident. Doubters need only look at the tremendous job done by volunteers at River City Vineyard, who grew tired of waiting for officialdom to act and opened a temporary shelter on Mitton Street last fall.
But a permanent shelter with professional staff and additional services won't come cheap.
The Young Professionals Group has kicked off a capital campaign to help build new or buy an existing building.
We encourage everyone to support it.
But startup capital is a one-shot affair. The annual operational costs estimated at $400,000 are usually the deal-breaker in such ventures.
MP Pat Davidson said she has brought the proposal to Monte Solberg, federal Minister of Human Resources and Social Development. And MPP Caroline Di Cocco said she looks forward to assisting in any way she can.
But we didn't hear any firm commitments there.
The Inn of the Good Shepherd receives some homelessness funding already and will presumably redirect part of it. But where the rest will come from is anybody's guess.
Sarnia needs a permanent homeless shelter. And the community seems to support the concept. Hopefully, as this proposal takes shape, the dollars and cents will also fall into line.

It may be of interest to your readers to learn that the head researcher and spokesperson regarding the study on female sex hormones in lakes and rivers, Dr. Karen Kidd, was born and raised in Sarnia. She is a graduate of Northern Collegiate and her parents, Diane and George Werezak, still live here.

Sarnians have reason to be proud to see "one of ours" doing important research in environmental matters of consequence for our society.
